No plywood substitute in this chair. It is upholstered at the manufacture in Thomasville NC. The chairs are sold and shipped in units of two. Part of the Cosmopolitan Collection from John Thomas this chair features a gentle curved X back. It is a full size chair with the right proportions for your larger dining table.
